2022 VLGMA Nominations: Looking for VLGMA Leaders who Give and Take
As the VLGMA Immediate Past-President I am honored to serve as the chair of the 2022 Nominating Committee. I encourage all of you to be engaged in this process to advocate for yourself or prompt others you feel are worthy.
It is time to Give and Take (by Adam Grant) as we just explored with Felicia Logan at the 2022 Winter Conference. Give to VLGMA by serving your peers in support of their professional development, g the VLGMA Vision and Mission as well as meeting our strategic goals of developing future dynamic local government leaders. Take by requesting and receiving unparalleled networking support, best practice learning, opportunity for leadership expertise growth and life-long friendship.
For those already serving on one or more of our committees our sincere appreciation as you have been a great resource to our future VLGMA local government leaders. Now is a good time to consider stepping up to a new role!
We are seeking nominations by May 1 for terms starting July 1 in the following roles:
Secretary officer role for one-year term with the expectation of progressing in escalated officer roles up to President. The Secretary is supported by the VML Recording Secretary. The position serves as the officer liaison to the Civic Engagement Committee and the Communications and Networking Committee. Descriptions of the duties are detailed online: http://icma.org/en/va/about/constitution_bylaws
AND
Six Executive Committee positions for two-year terms
What is the commitment?
The commitment is attending three VLGMA Board meetings/year (two are aligned with our conferences), engaging with applicable committees assigned or other tasks, and representing our organization to all its members in an ethical, professional, and engaging manner.
Who’s qualified to serve?
To serve as an officer of VLGMA, you must be in the “Member” category as defined in Article III, Section 1A. and referenced in Article IV, Section 1 of the VLGMA Constitution. The Constitution and Bylaws are silent regarding member categories eligible to serve on the Executive Committee, meaning that these positions are open to the categories of member, associate, affiliate, retired, or life member, as defined in Article III, Section 1.
How do I apply?
Our Nominating Committee represents a diverse group of individuals that encourages any and all of our members applying as we seek to create a diverse VLGMA Board in every sense.
Please send me an email at cmester@fallschurchva.gov that describes your “Why” factor of why you want to be in such role along with helpful information (e.g., Executive Committee prior service, service on VLGMA or ICMA committees, and any other helpful information).
