Virginia Institute of Government Update February 2021

By Charles Hartgrove

Thanks to all of you who are actively participating in AskVIG.  From September-December, VIG member localities submitted 51 inquires and we received over 313 total responses from those requests.  If you are not active in the listserv and would like to participate, please contact AskVIG@virginia.edu.  Examples of topics covered included COVID testing and policies, FFCRA, and CARES funding.

I mentioned our upcoming March 2nd webinar with author Richard Rothstein (The Color of Law) in last month's newsletter.  We are excited to host him in partnership with the Virginia Chapter of the American Planning Association and the Virginia Association of Housing and Community Development Officials.  This event will be free, but registration will be required.

We also have finalized the scheduling of two new training programs in partnership with the UVA Institute for Engagement and Negotiation.  We will host Collaborative Leadership on April 8th and Conflict Resolution on April 15th.  Each of these 4-hour programs will be focused on the challenges that local government leaders face each day.  Registration, cost, and other details will be announced later this month.  Registrants from VIG member localities will receive a discount.

I look forward to "seeing" you at the winter conference in a few days.  A BIG thanks to Molly Harlow for her tireless work collaborating with the conference co-chairs and others in the planning this virtual event.

Please follow VIG on Facebook and Twitter for the latest Virginia local government news including position announcements and other important updates.  Contact me directly if you would like to receive Virginia local government position announcement email notifications.
