Certificate News November 2020

By Stephanie Davis

The Local Government Certificate Program is in full swing with a packed semester. Students participated in the ICMA UNITE Conference, finished midterms, and are gearing up for our November ICMA Student Chapter meeting. To increase enrollment for the Spring Semester, we are continuing our recruitment efforts and answering questions about the Local Government Certificate Program through 3 virtual webinars led by Dr. Stephanie Davis.

Please find final fall session details below:

The VT ICMA Student Chapter continued its series of webinars on October 8, 2020 with Deputy City Manager Laura Fitzpatrick, City of Chesapeake. Laura led an excellent training on communication and leadership in local government. The chapter meeting was a mix of undergraduate students, graduate students, City of Chesapeake staff, and VT faculty. Everyone left the meeting with educational tools, resources, and an increased knowledge of how to better communicate in local government.

The VT ICMA Student Chapter is excited to host a panel of VLGMA members on November 19, 2020 at 10am. The panel will consist of Deputy City Manager Cindy Mester, Deputy City Manager Laura Fitzpatrick, Town Manager Danny Davis, Economic Development Director Scott Sizer, and local government consultant Jerry E. Cox. The panel will lead discussions on professional development, mentorship opportunities, and answer student questions.
