VLGMA Nominations Now Open

By James Ervin, VLGMA Immediate Past President

Nominations are now open for election to the Executive Committee and the Secretary of the Executive Board of VLGMA. The election of new officers will occur at our Summer 2021 meeting.

As Past President my last obligation is to fill a slate of nominations for the Executive Board and the Executive Committee. Fortunately I have the help of a great committee appointed by President Mester.

We are now accepting nominations for six people to fill two year terms on the Executive Committee. These terms will expire June 30, 2023. The Committee also seeks nominations for the position of Secretary for the Executive Board. The Secretary is the entry point to the Board and is on track to eventually become President of VLGMA.

If you know of a VLGMA member who is passionate about our organization and interested in serving, please nominate them. Your nomination should include their name and contact information including the locality where they are currently employed and a short statement as to why you feel that person would be a great board member or committee member. You can email your nomination to me at jervin@gmail.com. The committee expects to keep nominations open through April.

You can nominate yourself! There is nothing wrong with throwing your own name out and volunteering to serve.

What is the Nominations Committee looking for? Each year the committee strives to seek a balanced representation on the VLGMA Executive Board and Committee between Counties and Municipalities as well as between rural versus urban localities. The Nomination Committee also strives to foster diversity in all ways among those tasked with governance of our great organization. In addition to what we as professionals may think of diversity, we also strive for diversity among position types, looking to get non-CAO positions involved.

Take some time and nominate a great person who you think will make VLGMA the best it can be!
