Virginia Institute of Government Update November 2020
By Charles Hartgrove
I had the opportunity to connect with all the ICMA senior advisors at their annual meeting on October 21. We typically connect in person at the ICMA annual conference, but it was good to hear how these volunteers are helping those of us active in the profession. Senior advisors have been helping other state associations conduct ethics investigations and assisting members navigate the stresses of managing through the pandemic and social unrest we have seen in communities throughout our country.
Our SEI/LEAD team hosted our second virtual alumni program on October 21. The next SEI/LEAD virtual alumni program is scheduled for November 18 "Leading with Values, Not Bias". VIG also conducted its first live virtual short course on October 28. Our focus was on providing great customer service both in person and virtually to local government customers. We look forward to rolling out more of these two-hour events in the future.
We recently have partnered with UVA's Institute for Engagement and Negotiation to develop a local government specific seminar on conflict resolution. We will make this programming available in the very near future. This will be a half-day course geared to local government senior executives, department heads, and elected bodies.
Thank you for those of you who actively participate in AskVIG. Without your feedback and support we would not be able to provide this assistance to our Virginia local government community!
